How I Started
During my university studies, I was focusing on looking for work with publishing and printing companies. I received offers from two printing companies and two corporate credit research companies and still remember how hard it was to decide until the very end. I had been a manga and anime fan already, which made me think that I would like to work for a manga-related company with a welcoming working environment. So, I joined this company in 2015.
As a member of the Kodansha Group, Toyokuni Printing’s strength is that there is the chance to make manga working together with the editorial team. I wanted to start a job where I could be engaged in manga production, which was one of the main reasons for my decision to work here. Also, I decided to work here after personally meeting employees during the job interview and having a meeting with the company president. I came to feel that here is where I can work the way I like.
What I Do
I am in charge of three magazines in the comic sales group. My work resembles route sales. By managing progress and checking with the editorial team, I make sure that the magazines and comics that I am in charge of reach the readers. I also make proposals for new assignments based on consultations with employees. Furthermore, I make recommendations to the editorial team to increase work efficiency and lower its and Toyokuni’s workload.
The Joy of Working
It may sound like somewhat of a cliché, but I am very happy when the magazines and comics I handle actually end up laid out in the shelves of stores. Another reason why I believe it is worthwhile is the real feeling when making books together. I work with printing and book making companies, including their editors, in situations when I think that working on this particular manga was tough or that the color of this came out extraordinarily well.
